This amazing young man from Oklahoma came to the LeMars
gathering in 2014 to receive our once a year “Rising Legend” award.  He
was on stage with terrific songwriter Larry Cordle who wrote “Highway 40
Blues” for Ricky Skaggs.  I find it amazing that Tanner begins with
this incredibly well done ‘country’ CD with that very song. When I heard
this boy perform at LeMars, I was struck not only with his very gifted
country voice, but also with his incredible guitar lead picking.  What’s
so neat for me is to KNOW that this style of country music is not going
away, no matter what they do to it in Nashville these days.  Tanner
teamed up with some incredible instrumentalists to record this winner at
the BDM Studios in Commerce, Texas.  Way way up there Tanner.  The
selection of songs is a very nice representation of what has influenced
this 17-year old country singer.  Brad Davis is in the studio with
Tanner on this one.  Davis has picked with just about every superstar in
country music.  He has an original amazing double-down-up guitar
technique I’ve not heard anyone else duplicate….yet.  Give Tanner a
little time.  Anyway he’s on acoustic guitar. Milo Deering is on fiddle
and steel.  This is another superstar in the studios, he’s been on so
many national television shows it’s hard to count them all, the Tonight
Show, the Today Show, Letterman, Austin City Limits, it just goes on and
on.  What it all boils down to is they are right there behind Tanner,
giving him the best there is in country music these days, and it’s one
huge success.  Check that list of songs again, and then try to imagine
what they sound like with a gifted young man singing them.  This one is
going to the Rural Roots Music Commission for sure.  Check your calendar
for 2015 Tanner, you are going to get an invite, I can almost promise
you that.
