CD / Song Review: Bailey Callahan – Home Made – by Preshias Harris for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Bailey Callahan’s new single, “Home
Made,” drops July 11 and sounds like one of those
made-for-midsummer songs that create visions of long, lazy days and
hot nights.

The song opens with a chugging acoustic
guitar and Bailey’s distinctive voice telling of “backwoods
bonfires, howlin’ at the moon / July the fourth, layin’ on a
rusty pontoon.” But the energy steadily builds towards the chorus
and she tells us she’ll “always be the girl that home made.”

Since arriving in
Nashville just over a year ago from her native Florida, Bailey (now
nineteen) has proved to be a powerful songwriter with a maturity
beyond her years. “Home Made” was co-written with Jared Anderson
and Ryan Robinette, and Bailey already has numerous co-write credits
on her resume. As a performer, she has been steadily building her
base of “CallaFans” while opening for the likes of Luke Combs,
Hunter Hayes, LOCASH, Scotty McCreery and more. “Home Made”
follows her self-titled EP that charted at No. 53 on iTunes, and she
is set to increase her overseas fanbase as 2019 will see her tour
including stops in Dublin, Ireland.

On “Home Made,” Bailey gives us a
summer anthem with heartfelt lyrics about growing up but never losing
touch with the important things of life in small-town America.
Producer Robbie Artress (Chris Stapleton) steadily swelling the
energy behind Bailey’s voice, increasing the presence of
percussion, guitars and keyboards towards a fist-pumping instant
earworm.

(Full disclosure: Bailey is a former
client of mine, a part of my Nashville Music Line / College of
Songology.)
