The album title “Up Here in The
Saddle” alone promises a lot of western feeling and you will not be
disappointed. Todd Fritsch works daily on his cattle ranch in Texas and spends
a lot of time in the saddle. A lot of lyrics are written there, which he then
transforms into beautiful country songs in his “free” time. Fritsch
himself says that this album is his favorite of his three previous releases and
I have to agree with him.
His lyrics are varied and you can identify
with a lot of what they say. With the quiet song “Calls I Haven’t Made”, he
addresses the general problem that we don’t always get rid of what’s on our
mind or that we realize far too late that we have missed something in our lives
even though we had the time.
“Texas Girls” and “My Kind of Crowd”, on
the other hand, are faster and a bit rocking. The lyrics are less serious and
are great for just enjoying the music. A great country album that you’ll like to listen to often.
