CD Review: Texas’ Bobby Dean –Out of Hand

In
the world of country music, there are usually two different groups of fans:
people who love the traditional older sound and those who prefer today’s modern
sound. Luckily for country music fans, there are also artists who carry the
torch of yesterday and combine it with today by making music that you’d imagine
hearing in any local honky tonk or on today’s radio.

‘Texas’
Bobby Dean is one of those artists who highlights all the country music songs
you know and love in his album “Out of Hand.” The opening song “Party Time,”
made famous by country singer T.G. Shepherd, is a country take on healing from
a heartache with drinking, partying and honesty. The other songs read like a
collection of one of the greatest heart-wrenching soundtracks that country music
has to offer: “She’s All I Got (Don’t Take Her),” “Backside of Thirty,”
“Goodbye Time,” and “She Used To Be Mine” were all previously recorded by
household American country music artists, so they’re pretty well-known songs.
Even my hardcore rock friends love George Jones and sing along to “Finally
Friday.”

The
songs on this album may seem like a tribute to these greatest country songs and
singers, but Bobby Dean still makes them his own. Bobby Dean is originally from
Texas and something about that Texan sound comes across as genuine and makes
you hear the lyrics louder and clearer than the music composition. Bobby Dean
changed his name to ‘Texas’ Bobby Dean after another musical artist had the
same name. They say things are bigger in Texas and the ‘Texas’ Bobby Dean voice
on these country classics is just that.
