The
wait is over! The highly anticipated debut CD by King Calaway is here.  (Well, highly anticipated by me since I’ve
been hearing about this project from Robert Deaton and Ross Copperman for quite
some time.

The
talent in the band is right out front; vocals, vocals, vocals!  These guys can freakin’ sing!!!

That
being said, they also stack their deck by picking songs from the “A”
Team of hit songwriters in Nashville. The liner notes read like a Who’s Who
but, hey, that’s what it’s all about these days.

Two
me the standout track is “Missing You” (Dave Barnes, Jordan
Reynolds).  This ballad really speaks to
me with the plaintive lead vocals.  Then
when the harmony kicks in at the chorus it soars skyward and never looks back.
To me this is what music is all about: a song that takes you out of where you
are and leads you to somewhere more beautiful; where everything makes sense;
where love wins the day.  Call me a
hopeless romantic but when the layered backing vocals show up in the outro,
they had me!

The
cover of Love The One You’re With is exceptional, as well.

Let’s
face it, King Calaway has a tough row to hoe as they will be likened to every
boy band, harmony vocal group out there.
To me that is a gross and unfair underestimation of the talent of these
young men.  Put that shit aside and give
them a listen!
