This must be my day to review old-time gospel, for lo and
behold here’s Dave Wilburn from Woodbridge, Virginia with a selection of
great old-time very meaningful gospel tunes, similar in the style and
taste of Peter Trenholm.  Dave has been singing and playing old-time
music, mountain style, traditional country style, folk style, all the
time staying true to the genre of old-time.  He is not only an excellent
vocalist of the old school, he’s also a very talented picker.  He and
his son Ron come to our festival in LeMars, Iowa, and when they
perform together they are star attractions.  Father-son harmony just
cannot be beaten, and they don’t have to send it through a ‘box’ to make
it perfect, it already is.  Dave plays acoustic guitar on this CD,
along with bass, mandolin, harmonica, and does the lead and harmony
vocals.  The Kirk Brothers, exceptional Virginia musicians join in on
mandolin, guitar, bass, backup harmony.  Dave Croslin is on the steel
guitar, and Ray Calcote joins in on Dobro, steel guitar, bass, and
vocals.  This is actually a compilation of music Dave has recorded over
the years, and makes a significant contribution to his life as a
‘country’ singer.  Released on Torch Records, they’ve done a good job
mastering the finished product.  It should be noted that Dave wrote ten
of the 16 songs recorded here.  He’s making sure everyone that hears
what he has to say can surely find salvation for their soul.  For that
salvation is in the arms and love of Jesus Christ our only Savior and
Lord.  We are so looking forward to having Dave and Ron back at the
LeMars Festival this year, as Aug 25-27 will surely be a gathering of
some of the finest old-time pickers, players, and vocalists still
singing ‘real’ country music in America. I usually send CD’s I receive
on to radio stations or give them to senior centers for them to enjoy,
but I’m hanging on to Dave Wilburn’s for awhile.  I want to hear it
again.  Dave is at 2902 Alliance Lane, Woodbridge, VA 22193.
