Carrington MacDuffie Interview

Carrington MacDuffie Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  What is your latest CD and how’s it
doing?

Answer:  I have a brand new CD out as of April
24th! Numbers on Spotfiy are climbing,
and I’m getting radio airplay all over the US, as well as stations in Europe
and the UK. I’ve been doing podcasts and interviews and having a great time
discussing what the music is about.

Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the
CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

Answer:  The title track of this EP is “I’m The One,“
and I chose this song to be the title track because it expersses an overall
theme for me: The fact that every single one of us is the center of the
universe, it’s the only perspective anyone can have — and so everyone is The
One. Also, this EP marks a turning point
in my career where the awareness of my music is growing exponentionally, and
listeners and reviewers are seeing more than ever that I’m One to pay attention
to..

Lamitschka:  What is the difference between your last
CD and your current one?

Answer:  I produced the new EP, whereas on the
previous LP, “Kiss Make Better,“ I had a producer, so the new album has more
depth to it, even though it’s shorter. I’m very involved creatively with the musicians I work with, and we recorded
all the songs on “I’m The One“ together in a really inspiring
collaboration. I recorded both albums
with the same phenomenal Nashville musicians, but we worked more closely on the
new album. Also, for the new record I
recorded the vocals in a studio in Austin, where I had more time to explore the
vocal possibilities than I had on “Kiss Make Better“.

Lamitschka:  What will your next single be?

Answer:   I‘m planning on releasing a song
called “Precious Kissses“ in June! A hip
and modern sounding ballad with a tremendously engaging backbeat.

Lamitschka:  What inspired you to become a
songwriter?

Answer:  I was inspired by music I heard throughout
my childhood, especially upbeat, catchy, well crafted songs — and the
tremendous emotional range of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. I played the cornet and French horn and sang
in choruses throughout my childhood as well. When I was about 13 my mother bought a grand piano, and between my
adolescent passions, the presence of a piano that nobody else was playing, and
all the great music I’d heard on the radio, I was excited to start forming
chords and picking out melodies.

Lamitschka:  What drives you?

Answer:  I‘m not so much driven as I am led — by my
desire to continue evolving spiritually and developing as an artist: these two
processes can’t really be separated. Songwriting is a way for me to grow as a human, and singing keeps me
sane! I also love the way live performance puts you right in the moment, so
this is an experience I pursue.

Lamitschka:  What does it take to be a music icon?

Answer:  Vision! Confidence! Individuality! Freedom!

Lamitschka:  What’s unique about you that will
differentiate you from other artists?

Answer:  I’m told that my music is a fusion of many
styles, and can’t be categorized into one genre. Also, I have a deep background
as a poet and as a voice actor, so my lyrics and the way I use my voice are
unusual.

Lamitschka:  When you’re on tour, do you have time to
play tourist?

Answer:  Nowhere near as much time as I would like!
I’m very curious about the world, and there‘s so much to explore — but between
sound check, finding food, performing and traveling, there isn’t much down
time.

Lamitschka:  Tell us about the fan club and how
people can join it.

Answer:   If
you go to my website – carringtonmacduffie.com – you will see there’s a link to
sign up to my newsletter. This gets you
onto a private list to receive an exclusive monthly mailing from me
personally. From there you can find out
more…

Lamitschka:  What message would you like to send your
European fans?

Answer:  I will be back in Europe the moment this
corona virus allows!! I‘m not afraid of
travel in these times, and I can’t wait to get back.
