Ashley Puckett Interview Part 1

Ashley Puckett Interview Part 1

by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Puckett: I‘m a soulful version of modern and classic country mixed together. I sing alot of romantic songs, but i like to have some fun, energetic ones, too that show off a little personality.

Lamitschka:  How was the last year for you? What were your highlights?

Puckett: Believe it or not, 2020 for me in regard to music has been the best year yet! I‘ve had a Number one song with the last single, Bulletproof on the New Music Weekly AM/FM County Chart that I am super proud of, we have our current single, Live Like You Love currently climbing both the New Music Weekly and the Roots Music charts with Music Row. I‘ve been gaining alot of support with both local and distant radio stations across the US. Every day i‘m gaining new interest and fans and to me, that‘s all i‘ve ever wanted was to share my music with as many as possible.

Lamitschka:  What is your latest CD and how’s it doing?

Puckett: My album, Never Say Never has been doing great since it‘s release in February despite everything else going on and i‘m very grateful for that. It consists of thirteen tracks, and alot went into the making of this album and it‘s a very modern yet classic country sound.

Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

Puckett: Never Say Never was one of my favorite songs chosen for the album and that being said, helped alot to be considered for the title. I am one of those people that think too much into everything though, and wanted it to be more than just a favorite song so i went back and forth a bit on a few options for the title. What made me think Never Say Never was quite perfect was the fact that when i look at the journey from when i first met my producer and sound engineer (Bryan Cole & Doug Kasper) the timing was all kinda weird and meant to be. I always say that never seeming to be at the right place at the right time in life led me to the right place at the right time, quite the cliche if you ask me just like Never Say Never. Music was something always a very big part of my life and i knew it always would be, but life happens sometimes and i at one point wasn‘t sure it would ever turn into much of a career even if it was part of my daily life. Then here we are. So i‘m blessed to have a dream come true as big as this one and although a common cliche, Never Say Never was a lesson to me and hopefully to any dreamer reading this, there‘s no good excuse to say something will never happen if you want it bad enough.

Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Puckett: I am a songwriter, however for this album as a debut, we had decided to go with some well known writers, both from Nashville, and really all over the world. I went through more than 100 songs to choose the ones that meant the most to me. I‘m a very realistic person, and if i‘m going to be performing something, it has to have meaning behind it as if i was the writer, because when we recorded this album and put our own spin on things, it because my own, and my story to tell.

Lamitschka:  Please tell us about the songs on your album (influences, etc).

Puckett: Aside from songs just being relatable to me and an audiance, i‘m a sucker for romance and love songs. So, as many love stories i could get away with putting on here, i tried. Haha. There‘s also a few good edgy ones, too. I‘ve had alot of influence shaping the artist ive become today such as Leann Rimes, Lee Ann Womack, Jo Dee Messina, Carol King, Miranda Lambert,
Sugarland, and so many more.

Lamitschka:  What is the difference between your last CD and your current one?

Puckett: I‘ve only just put out my debut album this past February, and its been very successful, but i still have alot of the world that needs to know who i am and what i‘m about before i take to a second one. God willing, however, i would love to defintly get some of my own origional work on my next one.

Lamitschka:  Your current single is being played by radio. What do you feel is special about this song that makes people want to hear it?

Puckett: In times of hate especially, everyone needs a song that sheds some light on Love of all kinds, the feeling it gives you no matter who it is from: family, friends, a boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse, etc. That feeling of freedom, acceptance, happieness and that feeling of completeness. That‘s what this song is all about and it‘s very relatable.

Lamitschka:  What will your next single be?

Puckett: Haven‘t quite decided yet…
