ANGEL MARY PRISON

ANGEL MARY AND THE TENNESSEE WEREWOLVES TEAM UP WITH JOHN CARTER CASH, RELEASE FOLSOM PRISON BLUES

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 22nd, 2013) – Country recording trio Angel Mary and the Tennessee Werewolves has officially announced Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues as their next single, set to release to radio on July 30th – the same day Cash recorded the song in 1955. Produced by the legend’s son John Carter Cash and recorded at The Cash Cabin Studio in Nashville (where some of Cash’s later recordings were created and parts of feature film Walk the Line was filmed), the recording also features Carter Cash on acoustic guitar, Rob Caggiano of rock group Volbeat on electric guitar, and the trio’s own Angel Mary on lead vocals – making this the first cover release of Folsom Prison Blues to feature a female lead.

Long-time fans of Cash, the trio’s name was chosen as a nod to the late Man in Black.

Johnny
started with Johnny and The Tennessee Two and, later, Johnny and The
Tennessee Three. That’s where ‘Angel Mary and The Tennessee’ comes
from,” explains Antoine Wolf, member of the trio. “‘Werewolves’ was
inspired by Johnny’s song “The Beast In Me” from his American
Recordings”

When
we were younger and between houses in Hendersonville, Johnny’s sister
Joann Cash opened her home to us. So Johnny has been a part of our lives
from the start,” adds Angel Mary. “We’re taking a huge step into the
unknown by releasing a Johnny Cash hit… Folsom Prison Blues is a song
we hold close to our hearts. We’ve all had our struggles, ups and downs,
and times we feel we can’t be free. But there’s always that light of
forgiveness at the end of the track.”

The
single will be available in a country mix and rock mix, and each will
have an alternate explicit lyric version as a “…tribute to the outlaw
side of Johnny.” The trio will also begin work on a music video for the
single the first week of August.
