Nanci Griffith to Headline Free Musicians Corner Concert

Nashville, September 26, 2011 – Call it a Music City Roots Revival, as The Americana Music Association spreads its musical message throughout Nashville with cool open to the public special events during the 12th annual Festival and Conference presented by Nissan.  For conference attendees it’s icing on the cake, and for those new to the Americana scene it’s the perfect way to dip your toes in the genre’s water and discover why Southern Living calls this “..the Best Music Festival in Nashville.”

 The festival and conference take place October 12-15th. It features trendsetters and tastemakers in engaging panels by day and re-energizing showcases at night. More than 100 artists will appear in key venues throughout Nashville.  They include hot new acts, rising roots stars, and Americana greats. For the most recent list of performers click here.
 
For those interested in the business of music, early Bird Registration for the Conference is $350 for AMA members and $450 for non-members through October 10th.  It includes admission to all AMA panels and all musical nighttime showcases, plus special events and a ticket to the Americana Honors & Awards show at the historic Ryman Auditorium on Thursday October 13th.  
 
Nighttime showcases are open to the public and $50 wristbands good for all shows can be bought at Grimeys Preloved Music or online at www.americanamusic.org.  Tickets for the Honors and Awards Show are also available separately for $65 at www.ryman.com. WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 12th
  • Steve Forbert, Live at Tinney Contemporary Gallery  5:30–7:30 pm at 237 Fifth Ave. North, two blocks from the Sheraton Hotel.  Join legendary songwriter Steve Forbert for a performance and an exhibition of his photographs.
  • Music City Roots: Live From the Loveless Cafe 7:00–9:30 pm at the Loveless Barn, 8400 Highway 100Nashville’s favorite modern old-time roots/Americana radio show turns two years old tonight, and you’re invited to join the celebration in the cozy Loveless Barn. On tap: Grayson Capps, The Milk Carton Kids, Elephant Revival, The Wilders and Mic Harrison and Scott Miller of the V-roys. This is an official AMA showcase event, so entrance is free with a laminate or wristband. $10 for the general public. Tickets and more information at www.musiccityroots.com.
THURSDAY OCTOBER 13th
  • Land of 1000 Dances: The Groundbreaking Sounds of Muscle Shoals 
    Presented in partnership with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum 12:00–1:30 pm at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Ford Theater, 222 5th Avenue South

    What do Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Bob Dylan, Bobbie Gentry, the Osmonds and the Rolling Stones have in common? They all recorded classic hits in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.  Join us as we meet and talk with the pioneering masters behind the sounds of Muscle Shoals. Guest Speakers include: David Briggs, Rick Hall, Norbert Putnam, Donnie Fritts, Dan Penn, Spooner Oldham and Jimmy Johnson. Moderated by journalist Holly George Warren. Included with museum admission. Free to museum members and to AMA conference registrants with badges.
  • 10th Annual Americana Honors and Awards Show
    7:00 pm at the Ryman Auditorium
    The Americana Music Association will honor the jaw dropping accomplishments of Lucinda Williams, Gregg Allman, Jerry Douglas, Rick Hall and Bob Harris by presenting them with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the amazing annual Honors & Awards show at the historic Ryman Auditorium. Jim Lauderdale will again serve as master of ceremonies, while Buddy Miller will lead an all-star house band. Among the other artists attending are: Robert Plant and the Band of Joy, Hayes Carll, The Civil Wars, Elizabeth Cook, Justin Townes Earle, Jessica Lea Mayfield, The Secret Sisters and more to be announced. Included with conference registration.  Open to the public, tickets available at Ryman.com.
FRIDAY OCTOBER 14th
  • LIVE radio broadcast with Mojo Nixon for SiriusXM Outlaw Country
    5:30 – 7:30 pm at Sirius XM Theater, Bridgestone Arena Tower, 501 Broadway, 2nd Floor. Come enjoy conversation and performance with three of the finest acts in Americana music and iconic DJ Mojo Nixon, featuring the Bottle Rockets, North Mississippi Allstars and Kenny Vaughan. Open to conference badge holders and Sirius XM listeners. Limited seating.
SATURDAY OCTOBER 15th
  • AMERICANARAMA IV
    10:00 am – 8:00 pm at Grimey’s New And Preloved Music, 1604 8th Ave. South

    It’s back again by popular demand: the free, all-day concert and festival in the back parking lot in conjunction with the Americana Music Association. Live music all day, plus the Yazoo beer truck, local food vendors and a store-wide sale! This is the ultimate AMA hang, with artists hand-picked by Grimey’s music mavens. Free & open to the public.
  • Performance by The 1861 Project

    2:30 pm on the Legislative Plaza in front of War Memorial Auditorium and the Sheraton Hotel. Presented in partnership with the Southern Festival of Books.The 1861 Project is a concept album that sets stories of the Civil War to new songs, recorded by a range of top Nashville artists. Enjoy this live experience commemorating the 150th anniversary of our nation’s seminal event. Featuring Thomm Jutz, Irene Kelley and more. Free  & open to the public.

  • Thirty Tigers and The SummerTyne Americana Festival Party

    5:00 – 8:00 pm at Hard Rock Café, 100 Broadway

    Join Thirty Tigers and the UK’s SummerTyne Americana Festival as they throw a party at The Hard Rock. Free and open to everyone as space allows.
  • Musician’s Corner: 3:00–6:00 pm at Centennial Park, West End and 27th Ave. N.  Inspired by “Speakers Corner” in London, Musician’s Corner is a free weekly outdoor showcase which celebrates the diversity, passion and fellowship of Music City.  Come see Nanci Griffith, “I Love”: A Tribute to Tom T Hall Ben Sollee,  Brian Wright and more.
SUNDAY OCTOBER 16th

Stagemothers Aussie BarBQ: Noon – 7:00 pm at The Basement, 1604 8th Ave. South The Aussie BarBQ – an established favorite at SxSW, comes to Americana. The music’s free. The genuine Aussie BarBQ is ‘by donation,’ with all funds raised going to the Nashville Kangaroos, Music City’s champion Aussie Rules football team. Artists Appearing: The Duke Wilde Band, Kristy Cox, Lachlan Bryan, 3rd Wheel, Caitlin Harnett, The McMenamins, Shandell, Chris Pickering, Kirsty Akers, Harry Hookey & David Garnham, Henry Wagons, Catherine Britt, James Blundell and Chris Altmann.  It’s our way of saying, “Thanks Nashville. See you next year!”
