Everybody Loves an Outlaw Interview

Everybody Loves an Outlaw Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout
Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you
describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen
or heard you?

[BOTH] Badass dark country, and we like to rock
when we play music. We draw on a mix of influences to make our sound,
vintage rock and roll, Americana roots and modern pop vibes. All this
comes together to make Everybody Loves an Outlaw.

Lamitschka:  What is your latest project and how’s it doing?

[BOTH] Our debut EP, I See Red, has seen a global
glow-up following a very successful sync in the Netflix hit 365DNI. We
spent 11 days at #1 on Spotify’s Global Viral Top 50 and have 20mil+
spins for ‘I See Red’. The internet success translated
to Billboard and we charted on two charts, Hot Rock & Alternative
Songs and Rock Digital Song Sales as well as coming in #8 on Rolling
Stone’s Breakthrough 25. It’s been incredible to see this response to
our music and really exciting to meet so many new people
through this experience.

Lamitschka:  Your current single is being played
by radio. What do you feel is special about this song that makes people
want to hear it?

[BONNIE] With the raw honest power of the vocals
underlaid by Taylor’s heavy electric guitars, ‘I See Red’ sounds like
nothing else on the radio today. It’s really unique, and people
recognize that. We are happy to see it move forward on
another platform and have more people hearing our song and singing
along.

Lamitschka:  Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your music?

[BOTH] We have TOO MANY interesting stories about
that! Since ‘I See Red’ was used in the most climatic scene of 365 DNI,
we get so much feedback about what our song added to that moment and how
it makes people feel a *certain* way. The
comments range from “Your song got me pregnant!” all the way to fans
wanting it played as the first dance at their wedding so it’s been quite
the variety. We’ve also had success on Tiktok with tons of hilarious
creations and videos to ‘I See Red’ so we’ve
gotten to watch the effect in real time, which is highly entertaining.

Lamitschka:  There’s a lot of work that goes into a number one hit. What did it take to make it in your case?[BOTH] For
us it was truly a lightning strike. We mostly play live shows, usually
about 200 a year, and when Covid-19 hit
we cancelled our entire year of work. We shopped these songs years ago
on a whim, because it felt like a cool opportunity. Just after it seemed
like we were unemployed for 2020, we got this Netflix placement and ‘I
See Red’ took off internationally. We went
from having no gigs booked to Columbia Records calling us on the phone,
wanting to sign us. It has been a huge boost and we’re happy to be back
in the studio working on new songs and writing so much with our
producer Robbie Nevil.

Lamitschka:  Is there any place you haven’t played that you would like to?

[BOTH] There are so many festivals we’ve dreamed
about playing; Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Coachella. I’ve heard about the
Sziget Festival in Budapest, that one has always looked amazing and has
incredible lineups. Rock in Roma is another festival
I’ve seen online that we’d love to play one day. At this point we’re
just hoping to stay healthy and get back to live shows when we can, we
really love performing and we’re missing it so much.

Lamitschka:  Many music fans today get their
information about artists online. Do you have your own website and what
will fans find there?

[BONNIE] Social media is where you’ll find us, we
have a strong presence on Instagram and Tiktok and it’s pretty easy to
connect with us directly on those. We run our own pages so that we can
actually talk to fans, it’s been such a great
outlet for us during quarantine. On Tiktok I’ve been asking people to
send song requests and I’ve been making a ton of cover videos,
everything from Stevie Nicks to Billie Eilish. We’ve released remixes of
‘I See Red’ and cool animated lyric videos on our
Youtube channel with more planned there. We just try to stay connected
and keep our content fresh, and our social pages are the best avenue to
do that.

Lamitschka:  When you’re on tour, do you have time to play tourist?

[BOTH] When we tour in the states we usually don’t
because we tour so often here but we’ve been to Europe twice on tour so
we made extra time to play tourist there. We have toured in Germany and
we took time to hike in the Bavarian Alps,
see the Black Forest and swim in the Bodensee. When we toured Sweden we
got to hear traditional Swedish Folk music, sauna with friends and eat
fresh herring. We also had time to take side trips to Austria, the
Netherlands and France. Europe has so much to
offer and we really enjoyed getting to see and do so many new things on
tour.

Lamitschka:  What’s unique about you that will differentiate you from other artists?

[TAYLOR] Bonnie’s voice and attitude are what set
us apart from other artists. No one sounds like her and she can only
sound like herself. She can soothe with her sweet tender tones and then
rip your heart out of your chest with her edge
and grit in the very next breath. She is soulful and raw with pure
authenticity. We have been married for thirteen years so we write as a
couple, produce as a couple and perform as a couple, so that makes us
stand out from the rest. Our lives are very intertwined
and that comes through in our music.

Lamitschka:  What message would you like to send your European fans?

[BOTH] We can’t wait to come see you and play for
you when we can perform and travel again! Europe has always been great
to us so we are thrilled to be reaching new fans with ‘I See Red’. We
love you and thanks for listening!
