producer, Grammy winner, recording artist.
Frank Myers is one of those rare show business figures that has truly
achieved success in multiple facets of the music industry. Recognized as an in-demand songwriter from
the 1980s to the present, Myers has penned hits for artists such as Lonestar
(“I’m Already There” and “My Front Porch Looking In”), Alabama (“Once Upon a
Lifetime”) and Chris Young (“Tomorrow”).
In 1995, he and frequent collaborator Gary Baker received the Grammy for
Best Country Song for “I Swear,” a No. 1 hit recorded by John Michael
Montgomery.
An accomplished guitarist, Myers was hired
as guitar player by Eddie Raven soon after moving to Nashville in 1981, and
became band leader and road manager for Raven with whom he wrote more than ten
hit songs and began to build a career as a music producer.
Myers skill and sensitivity as a producer
are evident on such albums as I Turn to You by former Lonestar lead
singer Richie McDonald, reaching the top ten of Billboard’s Top
Christian Albums chart in 2008.
When you hear Myers’ distinctive singing
voice, it seems incredible that it wasn’t until 2006 that he released his first
solo album, aptly title Scrapbook, featuring his own vocal versions of
songs that he penned for other artists. (He had previously released Baker
& Myers, a collaborative album with Gary Baker.)
Now we can hear a new song from Myers.
Titled “God’s Got This,” it is set for release August 28, 2020,
on all digital and streaming outlets. Myers co-wrote this gently inspirational
song with Richie McDonald and produced it with Jimmy Nichols.
Myers’ voice is as clear and clean as
singers half his age – I even went and double-checked his date of birth – and
has the vocal clarity and sensitivity of artists such as B.J. Thomas or Bobby
Goldsboro. “God’s Got This” is like a comforting arm around the shoulder of
anyone who is burdened by Life’s problems. With the gentle sound of an acoustic
guitar and keyboards, the song opens with Myers heartening words:
I can hear it in your voice / I can see it
in your eyes
It’s tearing at your heart / What’s weighing
on your mind
I Know the road you’re on / ‘Cause I’ve
been in your shoes
It would be easy for a song like this to
slip into the sentimental and the familiar, but Myers skillfully combines the
powerful and the gentle into a song of encouragement in times of trouble and feelings
of helplessness. His honest empathy shines through like a beacon of hope and
inspiration. Speaking about his album Scrapbook, Myers said, “I always
resisted doing (an album) because I know I’m not a great singer.” This new single, “God’s Got This,” proves
that his voice is as strong as his songwriting.
As Frank Myers sings, “Whatever you’re
going through, God’s got this.”
