Binky Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout
Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe
yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Well,
where do I start? My name’s Binky and I am an aspiring Country Music artist
from London. I fell in love with Country Music quite late in life I was 17/18
when I first started to write and perform country music, but I haven’t looked
back since! Although I love country music, I do love Pop, Indie and many more
genres. And that’s where I found my sound. I wanted to merge the Nashville
country sound with an urban London sound and I am hoping that most of you will
agree that’s what I have portrayed in my latest single “Fireflies” &
“Jackie D”.

Lamitschka:  How was the last year for you? What
were your highlights?

This last year has been absolutely amazing! I feel
like I am on cloud 9, I am overwhelmed by the amazing support from everyone
again following my debut single “Fireflies”. I always get butterflies when
releasing new music, as I want to make sure I delivery nothing but the best!
So, it feels like such an achievement when I get such a wonderful response for
a new single. “Fireflies” achieved so much more than I ever dreamed of. As my
first debut single, I was so nervous as this was setting the bar from myself as
an artist, as well as showing the world who I am and what I represent. However,
the incredible response and support means more to me than I could even explain.
I think reaching No. 8 on iTunes was just incredible, this was such a wonderful
feeling. Also reaching a high on Spotify this means so much to me. Waking up
every morning and still seeing the streams go up and up. It’s just a wonderful
feeling. Every single person who downloaded, streamed and shared “Fireflies”
has made my dreams come true. And I cannot wait to share so much more with you
all!

Lamitschka:  What is your latest CD and how’s it
doing?

My latest single is Jackie D, which was released
on 30th March. It’s doing amazing, I have such a brilliant response for this as
a follow up to Fireflies. It’s continuing to grow every day and I don’t think
it’s even peaked just yet.

Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the
CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

The name Jackie D just seemed to fit. Of course the
song is about a girl going out to have fun with friends and have a tad to much
Jack Daniels, which is making her act wild and reckless. It just didn’t seem
right not to refer to Jack Daniels in the title.

Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If
not, how do you go about finding the songs
for your CD?

Yes, all of my songs are written by myself, I usually
co-write them with my producer Michael Stockwell. I have also worked with other
artists and producers on some of my music, which is due to be released later
this year.

Lamitschka:  Please tell us about the songs on
your album (influences, etc.).

All of my songs have real life influences, I usually write about
subjects I can relate to so I can really feel the music. The US country market
is swamped with so many incredible, inspiring artist which I draw inspiration
from, but I also find inspiration from many pop and rap artists. I think I
relate more to the personalities of artist and the way they portray themselves.
Miley Cyrus is one of my biggest inspirations. I think she is a wonderful
artist. And I just love her free spirit and she allows herself to follow her
heart and enjoy everything she does. All of my music is about life experiences,
having fun, and emotional times.

Lamitschka:  What is the difference between your
last CD and your current one?

I feel Jackie D is more of a fun and vibrant song for
the summer. This is a lot more like a party song. Whereas I think Fireflies,
was a great song for autumn when I released it. It was a lot more of a laid
back song, which you could sing along to in the car.

Lamitschka:  Your current single is being played
by radio. What do you feel is special about this song that makes people want to
hear it?

I think Jackie D is extremely catchy, once you’ve
listen to it, you can’t get it out of your head! It’s a fun and vibrant song,
which makes you feel happy, and is perfect to get us in a happy mood, ready for
the summer.

Lamitschka:  What will your next single be?

I don’t want to let too much out the bag just yet,
however, my next single will be released very soon. I have a lot smaller gap
between Jackie D and my new ones, as oppose to the 5 months between Fireflies
& Jackie D.

Lamitschka:  What kind of songs do you like to
record the most?

I love to record a ballad; you can’t beat a heartfelt
song that you feel connected to. However, I love performing my upbeat stuff. It’s
so energetic and I can get everyone involved!

Lamitschka:  What is your favourite song among
all the songs you have recorded and what’s the story behind it?

My Favourite song that I have written is due to be
released at the end of this year. It is a slow ballad, but its what I call my
baby. It’s a simple and beautiful piano piece, and I can’t wait to share it
with you all.

Lamitschka:  How much creative control do you
have over your music?

I have full control over all of my music, I work
alongside the producer throughout every song and I make sure it’s exactly what I
want. I have very self-critical and like it to be perfect before I share it
with anyone.

Lamitschka:  There’s a lot of work that goes into
a number one hit. What did it take to make it in your case?

Well in theory I haven’t had a No. 1 so I couldn’t say.
However, if a song takes longer than 3 hours to write it wont be a hit. The
best songs fall into place quickly and easy and that’s a know fact which can be
confirmed by some of the best writers in the world.

Lamitschka:  Do you have any interesting stories
about how fans have been affected by your music?

I feel like I am still connecting with my fans and
would like to get to know them even more, and find out there stories and why
they love my music.

Lamitschka:  Who inspires you musically and how deep
do your musical roots run
?

I think the likes of Stevie Nicks and Tina Turner are to thank for my
vocals. I fell in love with the raspy tones of Stevie Nicks when I was around
13 years old. I have always sung and performed from an early age. But I started
to focus on singing professionally when I was around 15. But a real role model
for me was Tina Turner. No, she’s not a country artist, but her strength and
raw talent was just incredible, and I always wanted to be like her. When I
started to focus on country music, I became inspired by The Dixie Chicks,
Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and of course Dolly Parton. I absolute love
the vibrato Dolly Parton has, and this is the one thing that made me love her
even more. My mother was a singer at a young age, which is where I think I get
my love for singing from.

Lamitschka:  What do you think about today’s
music scene versus its post and where do you see it going in the future?

I think the must market is changes vastly, and we have
so many incredible artist breaking through who are changing the game. All I can
say is what this space.

Lamitschka:  If you had the chance to change
something about the music industry, what would it be?

I think I would like to see more support for unsigned
artist who are looking to achieve their dreams. Maybe a small section of
mainstream radio play, which is set-aside for new artists. Of course the music
will still need to be at a certain standard. But there are so many artists who don’t
get the recognition they deserve.

Lamitschka:  As an artist, you so many tasks such
as recording, touring, interviews. What do you like best, what’s your favourite
activity?

I love it all, the whole experience is just amazing
and I feel so blessed to be able to follow my dreams and do something I
love.

Lamitschka:  What was your big break that got you
into the music business?

Hard work, big breaks come from hard work and persistence.
We have to push and push to get where we want to be and never ever give up. I
have been fortunate to meet some incredible people throughout my journey, but
they journey only begins by making good music. This isn’t always a happy smile.
Making music can be so emotionally draining. I’ve had laughs, smiles, tears,
angry, and sorrow. But it makes it all worthwhile when I get it out there for
people to listen to it.

Lamitschka:  What inspired you to become an
artist?

Being a singer is part of who I am, it’s the only
thing that ever felt right when i was growing up. It was my very own calm. And
a way of expressing my feelings.

Lamitschka:  What inspired you to become a
songwriter?

I wasn‘t always a songwriter. I didn’t start writing
until i was 18, and it was just a way of letting out my thoughts and feelings.
It’s almost like my very own therapy.

Lamitschka:  What drives you?

Happiness. I am at my happiest when I’m making music
and performing. Life is short and we should only do what makes us happy.

Lamitschka:  What’s unique about you that will
differentiate you from other artists?

I think my London background is what makes me unique, I
love to express these roots in my music, which I think do shine through.

Lamitschka:  What has been your greatest
challenge in music business?

All of it, the music business can be cut throat. So
you have to stay strong and when you get knocked over you come back fighting every
time. You can please everyone and you have to accept that you have to take the
good with the bad.

Lamitschka:  What moments in your career stand
out in your memory as highlights and achievements which you are proud of?

I think reaching No. 8 on iTunes was just incredible,
this was such a wonderful feeling. Also reaching a high on Spotify this means
so much to me. Waking up every morning and still seeing the streams go up and
up. It’s just a wonderful feeling. Every single person who downloaded, streamed
and shared “Fireflies” has made my dreams come true. And I cannot wait to share
so much more with you all!

Lamitschka:  Who is your biggest critic, yourself
or others?

I am very self critical, and I always strive to be
better than I am. But my father Jimmy is my biggest critic. He is the reason I
think I am now made of steel. He is always completely honest and is very blunt
and to the point when I don’t bring my best to the table.

Lamitschka:  When you get time off, how do you
like to relax?

I love to watch TV series and movies. There’s nothing
like a duvet Sunday with family and friends, chilling out with snacks and a
drama.

Lamitschka:  Is there anything in your life that
you would change if you could?

Never. I am a believer in everything happens for a
reason. I never have regrets. I think every that happens is either a memory
made or a lesson learnt. Life is short, we make mistakes but life goes on. It’s
all about getting up brushing of the dust and starting again.

Lamitschka:  What hopes and desires do you have?

I want to share my music with the world. I would love
to travel the world with my partner and perform for many beautiful people and
live my life to the max.

Lamitschka:  Is there any place you haven’t
played that you would like to?

Ahh god there’s hundreds, I haven’t even touch the
surface yet, and I hope this is just the start of my journey.

Lamitschka:  What can your fans expect to see
when they see you in concert?

A fun filled, energetic and funny show. I love to get
them involved and just enjoy the moment.

Lamitschka:  Many music fans today get their
information about artists online. Do you have your own website and what will
fans find there?

Yes you can find everything about me, including new
single, tour dates etc. on my website www.binkyofficial.com, and you can also find a lot about me on
all my social media platforms.

Lamitschka:  What’s the best compliment a fan has
ever given you?

That I make them happy when I am around them. I love
to walk into a room and bring the energy up and share positive and loving
energy.

Lamitschka:  What’s your favourite song that you
wish you could have recorded?

There are sooo many, but I love Landslide by Fleetwood
Mac.

Lamitschka:  What message would you like to send your
European fans?

The love a support you have shared with me already is
incredible. You have given me the love to continue my journey. And I hope to
come and see you all very soon and share my music and meet you all!
