Beyond The Sun Interview

1. Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs
yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Phil- Yes, we write all the songs ourselves. We
have done a few co-writes, but we’re far more comfortable keeping the writing
between the three of us. Colin, Dalton and myself all bring different elements
that complement each other well and together make up our sound.

2. Lamitschka:  What will your next single
be?

Dalton – Our next single will be a song called
“Stop”. And it’s coming out in May.

3. Lamitschka:  How much creative control
do you have over your music?

Colin – We have 100% creative control over our
music. Besides writing our own music, Dalton’s our producer so we keep
everything tight to our chest.

4. Lamitschka:  Who is your biggest critic,
yourself or others?

Phil – I don’t think there is a tougher critic
than ourselves.

5. Lamitschka:  What’s your favorite song
that you wish you could have recorded?

Phil – For me, there’s a few, but one would have
to be Fix You by Coldplay.

6. Lamitschka:  What message would you like
to send your European fans?

Colin- We’re going to playing in Europe for the
first time this June. We can’t wait to finally experience playing our songs on
that side of the pond.

7. Lamitschka:  You did a duet with Alyssa
Bonagura. How did that happen to come about?

Phil –  We have a song called Forever & Ever which was the first
time we had ever written a song to be a duet. Right away we thought of Alyssa.
We thought she was a perfect fit. Alyssa is dating a friend of mine from
college and, from the first time meeting her, we just hit it off and became
friends. We’re thrilled to have her on the song with us.

8. Lamitschka:  What is your favorite song
among all the songs you have recorded and what’s the story behind it?

Colin- Mine is a song called Little Kingdom. It was written and
recorded during a very emotional time in our lives. Our grandmother on our dads
side had just passed away. Little Kingdom
was the first song we recorded after her passing and there’s just something
special in that song and that recording. One of the best compliments Little Kingdom received was “I feel
like I know who you guys are just from listening to this song”.

9. Lamitschka:  Are you doing anything to
take music beyond its current borders or are you happy where it is?

Dalton – So we call our genre of music
“Shuffle” (like the iPod), the lines between genres are blurring now
more than ever so back in 2016 we decided rather to try & fit in a certain
box we’d create our own. Our music crosses over Pop, Alternative, Country &
even Rock. It’s all of the music we grew up with & love combined into one
sound.

10. Lamitschka:  Who inspires you musically
and how deep do your musical roots run?

Colin- Right now, some of the artists I’m
listening to are James Bay, OneRepublic and Billy Currington. As a band, we
find inspiration from a lot of different avenues whether it be real life,
something we saw on TV or in music from a bunch of different artists including
the ones I just mentioned. As far as our musical roots, all our talent was
passed down by our great-grandfather Jack Hannan on our dads side. He was a
drummer and played with Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton and Count Basie.
