Nashville, Tenn. (July 11, 2017) – Showing equal amounts of new-school swagger and respect for Country’s timeless traditions, Big Loud Records rising star MORGAN WALLEN left his mark during his debut appearance at the GRAND OLE OPRY Friday, July 7.
Receiving
an overwhelming introduction from legendary Opry star “Whispering” Bill
Anderson, Wallen was barely able to contain his excitement as a
long-held dream came true.
Anderson,
who is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and holder of 18 #1
hits as a solo artist, raved about the young singer-songwriter and
predicted Wallen’s debut was only “the first of many performances on the
Opry stage.” Anderson also drew an interesting parallel between Wallen
and Country icon Johnny Cash, who made his own Opry debut 61 years to
the day on July 7, 1956.
During
his performance, Wallen delivered two original songs for the thousands
in attendance and countless more tuning in from around the world; the
grooving getting-over-her ballad “Whiskey Glasses,” and his breakout
first single, “The Way I Talk,” both of which appear on his 2016 EP THE WAY I TALK (produced by Joey Moi).
Written
by Jessi Alexander, Ben Hayslip, and Chase McGill, “The Way I Talk” is a
drawling, take-me-as-I-come anthem which rose into the Top 35 of the
Country radio airplay charts, and has already been streamed more than 10
million times on Spotify alone.
Showing
off a diverse sound based in modern Country and Southern Rock – along
with Wallen’s distinctive sandpaper vocal – the song and EP have helped
the Knoxville native earn recognition as one of Rolling Stone’s “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know” and Taste of Country’s 2017 Risers. His video for “The Way I Talk” premiered on CMT
earlier this year, and he collected his first single credit as a
co-writer on A Thousand Horses’ rocking new release, “Preachin’ To the
Choir.”
Wallen
is currently performing in front of massive crowds as an opening act on
select dates of Florida Georgia Line’s game-changing THE SMOOTH TOUR
2017, a post-genre blowout which also features Hip-Hop icon Nelly and
breakthrough Country star (and labelmate) Chris Lane. Wallen will
continue touring through late October.
About Morgan Wallen:
Born in Sneedville, Tenn. (also home to bluegrass legend Jimmy Martin),
Wallen was a star on the baseball diamond, attended the same high school
as Country superstar Kenny Chesney, and has deep roots in the church.
With a Hard Rock-loving preacher for a father and a mother who couldn’t
get enough Country and contemporary Christian music, Wallen began
performing for his local congregation at the tender age of 3 and went on
to develop a strong love of Country, Rock and Hip-Hop. After moving to
Music City in 2015, he’s co-written with hitmakers like Craig Wiseman,
Rodney Clawson, Chris Tompkins, the Warren Brothers, Tommy Cecil and
Matt Dragstrem, and has been honing his studio poise with award-winning
producer Joey Moi. Wallen’s five-song EP THE WAY I TALK hit
iTunes and Spotify on July 29, 2016, and his Southern-roots anthem “The
Way I Talk” was instantly included on Spotify’s popular Wild Country,
New Boots and New Music Friday playlists.
