Interview with Brent Cobb
Lamitschka:
Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you
for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you
play to someone who has never seen or heard you?
Answer:  I come from a rural upbringing. My home town in population 1,609. I would say I and my music is just that, rural.
Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the CD?  Is there a story behind the name?
Answer:
Shine On Rainy Day is one of the track on the album. I chose it as the
title after I sent a pre-copy to a close friend. He and his wife had
went through a tragedy and that song struck a chord with him the most.
Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?
Answer:
I do write and co-write the songs. Every song except one on the album
was written by me. “Country Bound” was written by my dad and uncle. It
was the first song I ever witnessed being written. I was five years old
Lamitschka:  What kind of songs do you like to record the most?
Answer: I like to record songs that speak to me personally the most. That goes with lyrics as it does with the music.
Lamitschka:  Who inspires you musically and how deep do your musical roots run?
Answer:
I’m inspired by people who make music for the sake of music. For the
love of it. My musical roots run pretty deep. Everyone on both sides
have always made it and so did their family and so on.
Lamitschka:
As an artist, you so many tasks such as recording, touring, interviews.
What do you like best, what’s your favorite activity?
Answer:
I really enjoy it all but probably recording the most. It’s always such
a pleasing feeling to finally get an emotion recorded and out into the
world.
Lamitschka:  Who is your biggest critic, yourself or others?
Answer: Definitely myself.
Lamitschka:  What was your big break that got you into the music business?
Answer:
When I was 17 I met a distant cousin at a funeral. I had heard he was a
record producer in L.A. We’re all musical in my family so it was sort
of surprising that I had never heard about my record producing cousin. I
asked him what he had produced. He told me Shooter Jennings. Shooter
was all my friends and I had been listening to for months. This cousin
turned out to be Dave Cobb. I gave Dave an acoustic demo and two days later he
and shooter called me from L.A. inviting me to come out and record. It
floored me! I went out and made a record. Luke Bryan got a copy of that
’06 album and then invited me to Nashville to write and meet industry
people. If not for these two moments I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Lamitschka:  What inspired you to become an artist?
Answer: Music has always been something that came mostly natural to me. It’s in my blood.
Lamitschka:  What drives you?
Answer:
Different things depending on where I am in my life. It used to be just
the adventure of it all. Now it’s that but also my wife and child.
