It simply amazes me to see what happens when good
musicians and a terrific vocalist get together in the recording studio.
This one is really amazing.  New Zealand’s most popular country singer,
Roger Tibbs joins forces with some of the best American ‘real’ country
musicians in Texas to do this recording.  When I saw ‘Red Dog Studio’ on
the label, I knew I was in for a treat before I even opened the CD.
Roger Tibbs has been to America, a featured performer on a number of
prestigious venues.  Teaming up with Kansas steel player Curt Shoemaker,
and Dobro/mandolin/lead guitar & the electric bass of Tex Schutz, I
was prepared for an absolutely wonderful experience of listening to
some of the best Gospel music ever recorded, and I was not disappointed.

Roger has a remarkable voice.  It’s one of those
classic country voices that you like immediately, just as soon as you
hear him blossom forth.  He’s been very successful in New Zealand and
Australia, and his visits to America has restored what traditional
country music lovers call a true ‘superstar.’  This particular CD, as
you can see from the list of songs is about as traditional, and as
classical, as you can get in country music, add Roger’s remarkable
acoustic rhythm guitar, and Tex’s lead guitar, acoustic and otherwise,
and the stage is set for a really really good time, not only making the
recording, but listening to it.  Tex has a remarkable ear in the studio,
and he definitely knows how to ‘mix’ a session.  I’ve never heard him
miss, ever.  A touch of his nice ‘bass’ voice just adds frosting to the
cake.  Add to this Tex’s wife Mary on acoustic bass and her lovely
female harmony, and Curt Shoemaker on steel and it’s the Grand Ole Opry,
the Louisiana Hayride, Renfro Valley, Big D Jamboree, Town Hall Party
all rolled into one.

If you like good old-time Gospel music, this is the
one for you, and you can even get it directly from Roger.  He’s making
another tour to America this summer climaxing with two huge
upper-Midwest festivals, the National Old Time Country Fest in LeMars,
Iowa, Aug 26-Sept 1, and the Miles of Memories Country Fest in Hastings,
Nebraska, Sept. 5-6-7 at the fairgrounds there.  This is an act that
would normally require reserved seats, but in both festivals it’s first
come first served, get there early.  For anyone hearing about Roger
Tibbs for the first time, this certainly won’t be the last.  I’d even
recommend an air-trip vacation to America to catch both shows, both of
which are pretty spectacular. Come visit the great prairie lands and
sandhills of middle America, where pioneers still live.

Both festivals also feature other ‘name’ artists.
It’s this CD however that will catch the attention of country music
fans, dj’s, producers, promoters, and certainly the ‘particular’ country
music fan.  Roger Tibbs.  You’ll get used to it. My favorite number
“Help Me.”  The vocal is terrific, but it’s also the interplay between
Tex’s acoustic guitar and Curt’s steel that makes it incredibly
special.  Well, if I was Red Foley, I’d pick “Peace In The Valley.”
Yodeling, yes!
