program, a two-hour special dedicated to celebrating roots music, at
8:00PM ET / 5:00PM on Sunday December 16.  The program will be
rebroadcast later in the evening at 12:20AM ET / 9:20 PM PT.

The Americana Honors & Awards, described by Paste Magazine as “the best awards show in the world,” honors Bonnie Raitt, Booker T. Jones, Richard Thompson and many more. Performances throughout the night will feature, in addition to the aforementioned honorees, Guy Clark, John Hiatt, the Mavericks and new Americana torchbearers Alabama Shakes, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Justin Townes Earle, Sarah Jarosz, Robert Ellis and the Deep Dark Woods. The finale of the program remembers legendary Americana trailblazer, Levon Helm, with a special all-star tribute.

The program, presented by Nissan and the Tennessee Department of
Tourism, was originally broadcast LIVE on AXS TV.  A one hour musical
special was also created with performances culled from the event titled
ACL Presents: Americana Music Festival 2012 which aired in the Austin
City Limits timeslot on PBS.  The new AXS TV special will feature all 19
performances from the critically acclaimed event as well as compelling
and often heartwarming speeches by the artists honoring the best of the
best of Americana.

AXS TV is nationwide on cable, satellite and telco (Dish, DIRECTV,
Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse).  Specific cable markets and their
corresponding provider can be found at axs.tv/subscribe.

The annual ceremony, which is held at the historic Ryman
Auditorium, reflects the genre’s brightest talents, honoring the roots
of American music and its tapestry of influence.  From lyricists that
articulate the human condition to unrivaled instrumentalists; Americana
has been described by The New York Times as “the coolest music scene today.”

The program airs as interest in the Americana genre is increasing
following the Recording Academy’s recent announcement of the 2012 Best
Americana Album GRAMMY® nominees.  The category features previous
Americana Music Association award recipients The Avett Brothers, Mumford
& Sons and Bonnie Raitt, along with newcomers the Lumineers and
John Fullbright.
