Carolina Moonrise
New album is second bluegrass collaboration with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter

The Compass Records Group is proud to announce another dynamic
partnership; the Nashville-based roots music company is handling
distribution of Jim Lauderdale’s new bluegrass album Carolina Moonrise: Bluegrass Songs by Robert Hunter and Jim Lauderdale
through Lauderdale’s personal label Sky Crunch Records. The pairing
represents the fruition of a long friendship between Compass co-founders
Garry West and Alison Brown with Lauderdale and Compass’ growing
reputation as an independent haven for the artist ownership-licensing
model. The new album, available as of Sept 25th, is the natural next
progression from the Grammy-nominated 2011 Hunter-Lauderdale bluegrass

of Nashville’s most talented players contribute to the record: Producer
Randy Kohrs (dobro), Tim Crouch (fiddle), Jay Weaver (bass), Josh
Williams (guitar), Aaron Ramsey (mandolin) and Scott Vestal (banjo).
“Randy Kohrs really outdid himself as a producer and it was incredible
to work with these fine players. And I got to write the whole thing with
one of my all-time heroes, Robert Hunter.” (This marks their fifth
collaborative effort together.) “This has been an overall great
experience and I am very excited about this record.”

The album opener “Iodine” kicks off the 13-track high energy set and will be the first single released to bluegrass radio. Click here to download.
Other stand out tracks include ‘Triple Crossroad Blues” which opens
with Scott Vestal’s hard driving banjo and Tim Crouch’s blazing fiddle
and “Cole Bernier,” a bluegrassy track with a Bakersfield hue that tells
the story of Cole Bernier, a fun-maker in 1930s Phoenix, Arizona. The
album has its slower, sentimental moments as well and tracks “Happiness”
and “Can I Have This Dance?,” both show off Lauderdale’s charming
baritone. Throughout Robert Hunter’s lyric genius reflect his
fascination with bluegrass while Lauderdale’s vocals reflect his deep
North Carolina roots and bluegrass pedigree.

Chesnutt, The Dixie Chicks and more. His discography includes more than
twenty albums and he maintains an aggressive appearance schedule. In
addition to performing, recording and touring, Lauderdale once again
hosted the Americana Awards & Honors at the historic Ryman
Auditorium in Nashville, TN (his x time as host), and has recently
joined friend and collaborator, Buddy Miller, for The Buddy & Jim
Show, on Sirius/XM’s Outlaw Country. Lauderdale also hosts a radio
program on Nashville’s WSM-AM, and is heard every Wednesday night as
M.C. of Music City Roots, Live From The Loveless Café on WLRT and online
at musiccityroots.com.
