Go ‘Get Your Merle On’ With New Song From Danielle Egnew

Nearly everyone recognizes Merle Haggard as one of the
world’s most important songwriters and now Danielle Egnew honors him in “Play
Some Merle,” a fast-paced country-rock song. The playful lyrics of the tune
show how a little music by The Hag can make almost any situation better.
“I have always been in awe of the songs of Merle Haggard,” Egnew
states, “so when the opportunity came to be part of this song, I jumped at
it.”

Egnew recorded all instruments and vocals on the track and
then sent the work to producer Matt Forger for review. Forger has a long list
of indie and major label credits, including working on the current
“Bad25” Michael Jackson box-set. “The lyrics and the drive of
the song were undeniable,” Forger states, who has expressed interest in
producing his own version of the tune.
The video for the song was shot entirely in the towns of
Sheridan and Story, Wyoming. The video’s co-directors, Egnew and Roy Pack,
approached townspeople right on the street to solicit their participation.
“There’s such an Old West way of doing business there. It’s great,”
says Egnew, originally a native of Montana. “We’d ask people if they
wanted to be in a video and as soon as we said the title of the song, everybody
was like: ‘I’m in!’ It was just so cool!”
A new label, Tin Star Records, has made “Play Some
Merle” their first official release. The record company was formed at the
end of 2011 by Egnew and Pack. Working with Americana artists primarily in the
Rocky Mountain West, the company has offices in Sheridan and Los Angeles.
Shure, Inc. partnered with Tin Star to create the first all-Shure commercial
recording studio, featuring Shure’s studio KSM series mics. In addition, Egnew has
endorsements from Minarik Guitars, In Tune Guitar Picks, Studio
Devil Software, and Scoop Straps.
The three writers of “Play Some Merle” are Egnew,
John Scott G, and Philip Hatten. The video for “Play Some Merle” is
on YouTube at http://youtu.be/OeKM9M4Ci0Q
and the song is published by Golosio (BMI) and Ave Vox (ASCAP).
