MULTI-AWARD WINNING CANADIAN COUNTRY ARTIST
GEORGE CANYON SET TO RELEASE CLASSICS II
CLASSICS II TOUR BEGINS IN CENTRAL CANADA
Toronto, ON – Multiple-award winning Canadian country music artist, actor and philanthropist, George Canyon, is set to release Classics II (Reiny Dawg Inc, distributed by Universal Music Canada) on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. iTunes preorder begins on November 13. The highly anticipated follow-up to Canyon’s Gold certified 2007 album, Classics, will showcase country’s most recognized songs of the last 70 years. In support of the new album, the Classics II Tour
will also turn back time to the ‘good old-time radio show days,’
similar to the Grand Ole Opry, beginning November 18, 2012 with
performances across Western Canada and Ontario.  Full track and touring
listings below.
Classics II
was produced by Canyon and Jay Buettner and features a duet with Blue
Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy on “Pancho and Lefty.”  The album’s first single is
Canyon’s interpretation of American musician Glen Campbell’s largest
selling hit, “Rhinestone Cowboy,” which was debuted during Canyon’s
performance at the 2012 CCMA Awards in Saskatoon.
“I’ve
always greatly admired Glen Campbell, his contribution to music in
general is huge,” says Canyon. “When his version of this song was
released, it brought a pop edge with it that resonated around the world
adding a new dimension to country music. It’s an honour to pay tribute
to this man and this song.”
There’s
no better way to tell a story then through the lyrics of a classic
country song. The best orators of the past century include Johnny Cash,
Lefty Frizzell, Merle Haggard and many others who phrased and
communicated with authentic language and melodies that inspired
generations and pop culture. This album pays homage to those poets,
those icons and their messages. I only hope people find a fraction of
the enjoyment in my interpretations of these songs as they did in the
originals.
