Interview with Ryan Bingham

Interview
with Ryan Bingham
Lamitschka:
Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about
you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music
you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?
I
would say that at the root of my music is mostly folk. I have a lot
of different influences that range from mariachi music to Reggae,
country to rock n roll. It more or less depends on the kind of mood
I’m in when I’m writing. This new record is definitely in more of
a rock and roll direction.
Lamitschka:
Please tell us about the songs on your album (influences, etc).
They’re
basically just about life experiences and events that happen in the
world. Places I’ve traveled to and people I have met along the way.
I’ve always been influenced by writers like Dylan and Bob Marley.
Lamitschka:
What is the difference between your last CD and your current one?
The
last record was a lot more acoustic and stripped down while this one
is a lot more electric and loud. I really wanted to have fun playing
these new songs live
Lamitschka:
What is your favorite song among all the songs you have recorded and
what’s the story behind it?
It
changes all the time. I’m not sure if I really have an overall
favorite and I’m always looking forward to the next one.
Lamitschka:
Who inspires you musically and how deep do your musical roots run?
I
really enjoy the blues from guys like Robert Johnson and Howlin’
Wolf. I didn’t start playing the guitar until I was about 17 so I
kind of got a late start. I have always been a fan of older music
though.
Lamitschka:
What inspired you to become a songwriter?
Writing
has always been a form of therapy for me. It’s my way of processing
things and making sense of the world. When I learned to play the
guitar it became more or less a part of me. I don’t really feel
like I had a choice.
Lamitschka:
What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?
It’s
definitely a rock n roll show with loud guitars and big sounds and
then some more acoustic songs thrown in as well. We like to
experiement with the songs live and let them take on a life of their
own.
Lamitschka:
What’s the best compliment a fan has ever given you?
The
best for me is when someone can relate to a song and interpret it in
a way that makes them feel good or help them through their own
situation
Lamitschka:
How do you feel about being winning the
Oscar,
Golden Globe
und the Grammy
What has it done for your career?
It
was definitely unexpected to win all of those awards and it was a
great honor for sure.  Getting that kind of attention has
exposed the music to more people, which is great but I knew that
nothing would change about the kind of music I write or how I go
about it.  So the crowds at the shows got a little bit bigger
but otherwise nothing much has changed for me.  The best thing
about the whole experience was working with and getting to know some
amazing people.
Lamitschka:
What message would you like to send your European fans?
Thank
you for your support!  I love touring in Europe and I’m
looking forward to playing for you this November!
