Breaking Grass Releases First Single, “Running With The Moon” Today
Complete CD Hits Streets July 31st
July 3, 2012, (Booneville, MS) — Breaking Grass is very proud to announce the release of their first single, “Running With The Moon“, is available to radio today! Their sophomore CD of the same title will officially hit streets July 31st.
With their fresh sound, original material, strong vocals and innovative musicianship, Breaking Grass isdoing exactly what their name implies. Although not quite traditional,
the music they present is without a doubt steeped in the timeless genre
they grew up listening to. Comprised of Cody Farrar on guitar and lead/harmony vocals; Tyler White on fiddle; Thelton Vanderford on banjo and harmony vocals; Zach Wooten on mandolin; and Britt Sheffield on
bass and lead/harmony vocals; this relatively new band formed with one
goal in mind – to make music that all ages could enjoy. They are well on
their way to becoming a household name and recently won the fan voted B.O.R.N. Award (Band On The Rise Nationally) in June 2012.
2011
proved to be an exciting year for Breaking Grass with a string of wins
at many of the southeast’s top music festivals including first place in the State of Mississippi Bluegrass Band Championship in New Albany, first place in the Athens Old Time Fiddler’s Bluegrass Band Competition in Alabama and first place in the Uncle Dave Macon Days Bluegrass Band Competition in
Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This was also the year Breaking Grass released
their self-titled, debut album of all original music to a standing room
only crowd at a CD release event presented by the City of Booneville,
Mississippi. “With Breaking Grass, my very first impression was that
this band understands variety,” states Brian McNeal of Prescription
Bluegrass. “From heartfelt emotion to barroom romance to a Texas
Two-Step to a genuine good-old-fashioned barn-burner, Breaking Grass
lacks nothing in mixing it up. It’s refreshing to hear a band that truly
is different…different from any other and even different from
within.” With a sense of excitement and drive from a very fruitful first
year together, the band turned to producer Stephen Mougin of Dark Shadow Recording once again for help with their latest project, Running With The Moon, due for release July 31st.
This new CD is a strong offering from the group, showing their
versatility as musicians and vocalists with 12 tracks of original songs,
all written by the band’s main lead singer, Cody Farrar. “I had the
pleasure of working with Breaking Grass as producer and engineer on
their last two albums,” says Mougin. “I encouraged them to use “Running With The Moon”
as the title cut for this CD because I believe it highlights all of the
things they do really well. If there ever was a song that portrayed the
story through sound, this is it. The tune explodes into a fantastic,
tight, driving bluegrass groove that supports the fine vocals of
front-man (and composer) Cody Farrar, and it really captures the energy
of the band and proclaims their readiness to take on the music world!
They have matured from a hot-pickin’ local band, to a tight ensemble
that draws musical ideas from the lyrical content. That’s not to say
they’ve given up on the hot-pickin’ – the spectacular trading solos near
the end of the song showcase what great pickers they are!”
