Interview with Sherrie Austin

Lamitschka:  Country Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Sherrie Austin: My music has always been a little outside of the box but even so  I made this record with an artistic freedom I have never experienced before……..I just recorded the songs that i felt most represented me as an artist singer/songwriter. There was no calculating or figuring out what songs may get played or might be acceptable in the country genre, I just made music that moved me and I hadn’t done that in a long time and it was way overdue and this music just wanted ‘out of me’ and to be heard.

Lamitschka:  How was the last year for you? What were your highlights?

Sherrie Austin: The last year has been one of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding years I have ever had in my career.  i self wrote, self produced and self financed my own cd after an 8 year absence from the spotlight.

Lamitschka:  After 8 years you have a new album. How did you choose the title for the CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

Sherrie Austin: I named the cd ‘Circus Girl’, because my life in the entertainment biz has been pretty much like a big ole’ circus. The song is a metaphor for dreams: losing them, finding them again. In my case as an artist, I thought the circus had left town, but one day I looked up and there was a new circus in cyberspace, one that enabled me to reach my fans without the middle man – the internet.

Lamitschka:  Did you write every song yourself?  Can you tell me the inspiration behind several of the songs and their stories?

Sherrie Austin: I wrote or co-wrote every song on the record. They are a mixture of life stories I either experienced myself or I felt inspired to write because I was moved

by other peoples life stories. ‘Friday Night Girls’ and ‘Sleep With Me’ came from girls nights, laughter and tears shared over wine or margaritas. ‘He’s All Yours’ and ‘Bad For

Me’, a couple of bad dates. I really appreciate finding humor in pain and that’s how songs like ‘I Didn’t’ and ‘If I Was A Man’
