TELLURIDE, Colorado — Legendary Musician Michael Martin Murphey was honored on September 4 as the special musical guest at “America’s Royal Wedding” of David Lauren and Lauren Bush.

Lauren Bush, the niece of former President George W. Bush, tied the knot with famed fashion designer Ralph Lauren’s son, David, at Ralph’s 17,000-acre Double RL Ranch in the Rocky Mountains.

Murphey has been friends with the Laurens for more nearly 30 years, even helping Ralph Lauren find the Colorado Ranch the Laurens now call home.

“It’s the most spectacular ranch in the Rockies,” Murphey said, adding that the property was featured in the John Wayne film True Grit. “I go there to write songs from time to time.”

David Lauren requested that Murphey perform “Vanishing Breed” for the
couple’s first dance. Murphey wrote the song at a cabin on the Lauren Ranch
and recorded the song on his River of Time album. The ceremonial song for    the evening was Murphey’s classic hit,  “Wildfire,” and he and his Rio Grande Band, featuring guitarist Pat Flynn, played nearly six hours for the Lauren and Bush families.

“To be invited to celebrate this event with my friends the Laurens was such a huge honor,” Murphey said. “It was nice to visit with the President and his family, and David and Lauren are such a special couple. I wish them the very best.”

The Grammy-nominated Murphey is known for such huge hits as “Wildfire,” “Carolina In The Pines,” “Geronimo’s Cadillac,” “Cosmic Cowboy,” “Long Line of Love” and “What’s Forever For.”
